Law On Amendments To The Language Law

Announced by the President of the Estonian Republic

Article 1

The Language Law (RT I 1995, 23, 334; 1996, 37, 739; 40, 773; 1997, 69, 1110; 1998, 98/99, 1618; 1999, 1, 1; 16, 275; 2000, 58, 354; 65, 375; 93, 565; 2002, 9, 47; 53, 337; 63, 387; 90, 521) should be amended as follows:

1) Article 28.1 is abolished;

2) Article 28.2 is added and has the following wording:

Categories of Estonian language professional proficiency

(1) Categories of Estonian language professional proficiency are regarded to be equal to the obligatory level of Estonian Language proficiency (Article 5, section 4) according to the following rules:

1) Categories A, B and C are regarded to be equal to the Basic level;

2) Category D is regarded to be equal to the Intermediate level;

3) Categories E and F are regarded to be equal to the Advanced level.

(2) Categories of Estonian language professional proficiency are not regarded to be eligible for the procedure of naturalization.

Article 2

The present Law enters into force on January 1, 2004
